SDP’s main mission is to breed, raise, train, and donate certified service dogs to people who experience difficulty with their balance or mobility. These partnerships often help to enhance the recipient’s quality of life as they attain greater independence. Preference is given to military veterans and first responders.
Our second mission is to serve our local community. SDP’s farm is a destination for all ages — from teens doing community service, to seniors in search of a meaningful task and social interaction, to military veterans (many with PTSD) who enjoy feeling useful and connected while doing farm chores. Our Road Show project of dogs and trainers visiting senior centers provides much-needed smiles and comfort.
Our third mission is to sustain a worldwide online community of people who follow life on the SDP farm via seven live commercial-free explore.org cameras. For viewers who are isolated due to disease, geography, or because they are among the nation’s 66 million caregivers, the online comment section of the cameras functions as a lifeline. We strive to educate and entertain, and we interact with this community daily via Trainer Talk and Mail Call.
